The Single Darkest Day in the History of the US.

Today as I write is the darkest day in the history of America. I can no longer call it the United States, because frankly we aren't very united anymore. Today the congress, including the newly elected blue dog dems, have undercut and undermined the troops and in fact the once great United States of America.

As I sit here on this Friday night wondering what happened to my country. I for the life of me don't how the democrats don't understand what the realities of Iraq are. I don't understand how if I have known and fully understand that people are flooding into Iraq to meet our Army, keeping the war off the streets of America. I had wrote an article for this website almost 2 years ago that said the same thing. We put the Army in Iraq as a bulls eye. Anyone who doesn't understand that, I have to question their mental capacity to be a Congressmen.

This spin for the civil war is inaccurate. The media has demonstrated that they don't' even know who is on what side of the war. They fail to acknowledge that the Iran is sending weaponry into Iraq and that's some has ties to the government of the Iran.

I never thought we would ever see a day where the Congress of the US would ever publicly side with the enemy one that means us so much harm.

But here's my questions to those who voted against this. I doubt any will answer honestly but here they are.

1. Do you understand that Iraq is the 'battlefield' and every terrorist is meeting us there instead of here?
2. What actions do you plan to take when terrorists come to the shores of the US? Do you plan to protect us.
3. Having now turned your back on the soldiers and derailed the defenses of this country, how to you plan to keep us safe?

For every democrat that ran for congress saying they would not cut and run, I hope your constituents hold you accountable. They probably won't and that's the problem. They were willing to do anything to get in office even selling their own country and its defenses down the river.

I am ashamed of the congress. I am ashamed of the Media in the US who refuses to report the truth and I am ashamed of every citizen in this country that is to busy to find out the facts on their own and let these people into power. Most of all we have stood the war of the states, and communism and become the worlds lone superpower. We are being destroyed from with in.

I never did understand how the Germany Europe and the world did not see the evils of Hitler and how they just 'let him go' until a world war develop. Unfortunately we are watching it unfold in front of ours. Newt said it first and i will say it repeatedly. We were late to the last 2 world wars and first to this one. Its really sad that our congress doesn't understand that in the quest to hate Bush and pull the rug out from under him, they have pulled the rug out from under him, the military, the security of the public at large and most of all they have pulled the Constitution out from under the foundation of the country.

Democrats don't understand because they don't want to understand.

Undermining the war on terror is their number one priority, no matter what the cost. Why? Sour grapes over the "stolen" 2000 election.

It all boils down to their hatred for Bush. Absolute hate. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Truer words have never been spoken, congress has gone to hell and the world with it, it tkaes visionaries to help us see the light and find our way back out of the darkness we have dropped in. I have asked these same questions myself and just wonder, "Who will this all end?", I have only one awnswer, "I don't know".

I totally agree with the Democratic Congress pulling the plug on this President and the War in Iraq. The Bush policy has only broadened the training grounds and the recruiting for terrorists beyond Afghanistan. It has also created more new terrorists in the process. Most who have never served in the military, as I have, nor have studied Middle East history have no clue that the civil war problem in Iraq cannot be solved militarily and unilaterally by US forces. Iraq must establish its on government and unfortunately it will never be a democracy. One only has to look at the past with the Shah of Iran whom we put in power in the 1950's. He was suppose to bring democracy American style yet he made himself a king and caused misery to its people and eventually the Islamic extremists won the hearts of the people and made turned Iran into our enemy which we deal with today.

Our military is not designed to police and do nation building. The purpose for this war has been found to be false. All reports now show Iraq had only a impotent dictator in Saddam, no WMD, and no Al Queda. It was not an imminent threat to us at all.

Our military has done its job in Iraq. It has not failed or lost. What's failed is the Neocon Bush Iraq War Plan which failed to understand the political realities and cultures of the Iraqi peoples and its 1000 years of history.

Our soldiers don't need to be in the middle of ethnic battles between Shiites and Zunni's. The war brought Al Queda there. We leave and the Iraqi people will be forced to settle their differences and guarantee you that they give Al Queda no new purpose for staying to kill our troops and recruit new operatives.

To many Americans still live with a WWII and John Wayne mentality. Today's reality and truth is that our military mission has ended with the overthrow and capture of Saddam. Bush only wants to keep our military there for 2 more years to saved his Presidential legacy from notorial failure. Its all going to be layed in the next President's lap for blame. More Americans are catching on with the truth.

This is the worst Presidency I have seen in my lifetime which started with Harry Truman. Why let this President get more troops killed. We must be out of our minds.

Wow. I arrived on this site quite by accident. I understand and acknowledge your point of view. However, it is simplistic and wrong.

Our troops are not drawing in some already extant group of terrorists, rather they are breeding violence by their very presence. We must examine the root causes of terrorism -- of which there are many -- and address those rather then try to kill every disaffected person in the region (which only breeds more disaffected people)

The only way to ensure our own safety is to 1) work with local government's to dismantle already existing terror groups (with all the pressure at our disposal (e.g. if Pakistan won't move against a certain camp we drop bombs on it)); 2) use all means at our disposal to press for real political and economic reform in the region (this means the end of our blank check for the Saudi monarchy as they are the original root cause of Al Qaeda and also means the end of outright support for Mubarak in Egypt (among others)) 3) engage all state and non-state actors in dialogue to resolve regional disputes in a fair and non-partisan manner (Israel should remain our closest ally but the only way Israel will survive is by finding a new modus-vivendi.

Your take on the current state of affairs makes us less safe not more. And you have no solution either -- aside from "kill them all" I suppose.

Not that you will post this, but it was worth a shot.

Good points made. I recall the saying: "...all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." We all should remember that our freedom comes only at a high cost, and though constant vigilance. If we ignore it, it will surely go away.
